Foiling Ads and Trackers on the Web

uBlock Origin is a free and open source, cross-platform browser extension for content-filtering, including ad-blocking.

uBlock Origin is NOT an "ad blocker": it is a wide-spectrum blocker – which happens to be able to function as a mere "ad blocker". The default behavior of uBlock Origin when newly installed is to block ads, trackers and malware sites.

uBlock's manifesto states:

The user decides what web content is acceptable or not in their browser. The uBlock project does not support Adblock Plus' "Acceptable Ads Manifesto", because the "Acceptable Ads" marketing campaign is really the business plan of a for-profit entity. Users are best placed to know what is or is not acceptable to them. uBlock's sole purpose is to give users the means to enforce their own choices.

The project seeks no donations.

You can also politely ask Websites not to track you by turning on the Do Not Track feature in your browser.

And finally, if your into a Website that blocks you from accessing its content because it detects you have uBlock Origin installed, you can use Firefox YesScript2 extension to foil its JavaScript detection logic.
